I have been growing and enjoying basil in pots every year since 2006. They are likely my favorite herb of all time, although chives and parsley come close.
Sure, you can buy the pubescent plant already started and only in need of a transplant, but I especially enjoy growing basil from seeds. It takes some care, but nurturing seed into seedling and then into leafy plant is a wonderful experience.
